Main characteristics of the Slovakian vehicle register:

  • In the Slovak vehicle registration, license plates are tied to the vehicles and not to the holders/owners.
  • The license number is registered to a vehicle and includes a district code. If the holder/ownership of a vehicle changes in the same district, then the license number will be unchanged. If the holder/owner of a vehicle moves to a different district, then the original license number will be changed. If the vehicle is sold to another owner from another region/district, the original license number will be changed and a new license plate will be registered to the vehicle.
  • Slovakia keeps historic data for vehicles, owners and holders  registered as from 29-01-2007
  • The Slovak register stores vehicle information of vehicles including; cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, tractors, trailers and working machines. Military vehicles  are not registered in the Slovak registration of vehicles.
  • The Slovak register contains several types of license plates:
    • The normal license plates are black & white
    • The temporary license numbers are registered only for the export vehicles to abroad. The temporary license plates are yellow & blue.
  • There is a possibility to purchase a ‘ personalized plate’. The personalized plate is exactly like a regular plate with the only difference that the letter/number combination (within curtain rules) is picked by the owner/holder itself (who pays an additional fee).
  • The Company Information Number (CIN) will be returned if present in the Slovak databases
  • Owners and holders can be a ‘natural person’, ‘Legal entity other than natural person’ or  ‘Unspecified’.
  • If a vehicle is stolen or has stolen plates, no vehicle or owner/holder information is exchanged. Instead message 111 ‘Information not disclosed‘ is shown.
