Further information
On January 7 2000 Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania following a resolution of the Government established the State Enterprise REGITRA. The enterprise was entrusted with the registration and tally of road vehicles as well as related functions, taken over from the Police. Among other duties the enterprise was empowered to complete an information system on road vehicles and to supply data to customers. Starting from January 2003 REGITRA is taking over from the Police road vehicle drivers’ testing as well. REGITRA strives to expand international contacts with vehicle registration organizations abroad in order to exchange experience and information on road vehicles and thus to prevent legalization of stolen vehicles.
More detailed information about the vehicle and driving licence registration in Lithuania can be found in the publication The Vehicle Chain in Europe (https://www.vehicle-chain.eu/).
