Use of the EUCARIS system
Sweden is participant of EUCARIS and is exchanging vehicle information. Sweden is also using EUCARIS technology for information exchange based on
- the EU Prüm Council Decisions (2008/615/JHA and 2008/616/JHA),
- the CBE directive 2015/413/EU facilitating the cross-border exchange of information on road safety related traffic offences
- the 3rd Driving Licence Directive (2006/126/EU),
- the Road Safety Directive (2015/413/EU)
- legislation concerning the European Register of Road Transport Undertakings (ERRU), the regulations (EU) No 1071/2009, 1072/2009, 1073/2009 and 1213/2010.
- exchange of owner/holder information for traffic fines based on bilateral agreements with the Netherlands
- e-call regulation(EU) 2015/758 of the European Parliament and of the council of 29 April 2015 concerning type-approval requirements for the deployment of the eCall in-vehicle system based on the 112 service and amending Directive 2007/46/EC
- and TACHO 3.0 from August 16th, 2018

The Swedish Transport Agency is a government agency working under the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications. The Swedish Transport Agency is working to achieve good accessibility, high quality, secure and environmentally aware rail, air, sea and road transport. We have overall responsibility for drawing up regulations and ensuring that authorities, companies, organizations and citizens abide by them. The Agency is responsible for developing registers within all four modes of transport. The Agency is also responsible for vehicle type approvals in compliance with applicable EC directives.
The road section is responsible for administer the national database for vehicles, commercial and driving licence registry, issuing and applying special regulations concerning drivers and vehicles, the collection of road taxes and fees and assistance in road safety matters. We also administer the congestion charge system and the system containing wanted cars and license plates.
The Swedish Transport Agency has its head office in Norrköping. The national road administration is based in Örebro.
