Further information
The Isle of Man Department of Infrastructure includes in its responsibilities Highways and Road Traffic regulation, including testing drivers and vehicles, maintaining registers of drivers and vehicles, collection of vehicle duty, and giving road safety training. The Vehicle and Driver Testing Centre originated as an establishment of the former Isle of Man Highway and Transport Board for testing of Public Service Vehicles and their drivers. Its responsibilities have extended over the years for conducting roadworthiness tests of vehicles in general, and practical driving tests of prospective drivers, as prescribed by Manx law.
The Vehicle and Driver Testing Centre has a EUCARIS one-way link with DVLA for obtaining information about vehicles imported into the Isle of Man. Upon the Licensing Staff receiving an application for registration the particulars of the vehicle will be checked. In the case of vehicles which are imported in non-standard circumstances this will include the vehicle being inspected by the examiners to check if there is a EUCARIS report on it.
